How to Disable Google Play Protect

Google Play Protect flags every app installed from outside the Play Store — including legitimate ones you chose to install yourself. On Xiaomi / Redmi (MIUI/HyperOS), Oppo, and Vivo devices, an extra system-level app-scan (sometimes branded separately, e.g. MIUI's own security scan) may also prompt you — allow the install there too. On most phones you don't need to disable scanning at all — Play Protect shows a warning screen with an override button right in the install flow:

  1. Tap the APK file to begin installing, as normal.
  2. If you see "Play Protect doesn't recognize this app" or "Harmful app blocked," tap More details.
  3. Tap Install anyway (or Install without scanning) at the bottom.
  4. Continue with the installation as usual. This leaves Play Protect on for every other app.

Why a Parental-Control App Needs This

How to Re-Enable Play Protect
